Listen to: Dye It Blonde
The Smith Westerns haven’t released an album since 2011, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t consistently listened to them since then. Plus, they have a new album coming out June 11 of this year so, in honor of that, this Monday is dedicated to Chicago’s dreamiest garage/indie/glam rock around.
The trio of boys that came to make up the Smith Westerns weren’t even old enough to buy a beer when they first began — leading to a slew of complaints amongst my friends, questioning what we were doing with our lives when these guys were out playing some of Chicago’s better rock clubs while still in high school. While they were busy being the subjects of our envy, they were also busy being the subjects of our fascination. When I first heard 2011′s Dye It Blonde, I immediately bought the album on iTunes and listened to it nonstop. Even after the third, fifth and tenth time, I was still going. And, surprisingly enough, I’m still not sick of it.
I think that’s the mark of a truly great album, as well as the sign of a wicked band.
